Understanding Your Benefits

Coverage Varies by Plan - Let Us Help You Navigate It

Dental insurance can be confusing. Even patients enrolled in the same insurance company's network can have wildly different plans, deductibles, annual maximums, and coverage percentages depending on their employer or individual policy. Because of this, no dental practice can guarantee exact coverage for every procedure simply because a provider's name appears on an "accepted insurance" list.

At Dentistry of Uptown Charlotte, our knowledgeable front desk and billing team works directly with your insurance carrier to verify your specific benefits before treatment begins whenever possible, so there are no surprises when it comes time to review your statement. We believe transparency about cost is just as important as transparency about clinical care.

Below is a general list of insurance providers our patients commonly use at our practice. If you don't see your provider listed, please don't hesitate to call our office - we work with many plans beyond what's shown here, and we're happy to check your specific benefits for you.

Insurance Providers We Work With

This list reflects insurance providers our office frequently coordinates with. Availability, in-network status, and specific plan coverage can change, so we always recommend confirming your individual benefits with our team ahead of your appointment.

Don't see your insurance provider listed above? It doesn't necessarily mean we can't work with you. Contact our office and our team will be glad to check your plan's details.

How Payment Works

What to Expect Financially

Understanding the financial side of your dental care shouldn't be complicated. Here's how our team supports you through the process, from your very first visit to any follow-up treatment.

Benefits Verification

Before major treatment, our team will contact your insurance carrier to confirm your remaining annual maximum, deductible status, and estimated coverage percentages for recommended procedures.

Direct Claim Filing

For in-network and most out-of-network PPO plans, we file claims directly with your insurance company on your behalf, so you don't have to manage the paperwork yourself.

Flexible Payment Options

For treatment not fully covered by insurance, we offer several payment arrangements, including third-party financing options, so cost never has to stand in the way of care.

Personalized Guidance

Our team will walk you through your estimated out-of-pocket costs before treatment begins, so you can make informed decisions about your care with full confidence.

A Note on Coverage

Why We Recommend Verifying Your Benefits

Every insurance plan is negotiated individually between an employer (or individual policyholder) and the insurance carrier. This means two patients with the same insurance company can have very different levels of coverage - one might have a generous annual maximum and low copays for major work, while another with a similar-sounding plan might have a lower maximum, higher deductible, or specific exclusions for certain procedures like implants or orthodontics.

Being listed as an "accepted" or "in-network" provider generally means our office has a contracted fee agreement with that insurance carrier. It does not, however, guarantee that a specific treatment will be covered at a specific percentage for every patient under that carrier. That's why individualized verification matters so much.

Our billing coordinators are experienced in working with insurance carriers of all kinds - PPOs, HMOs, and indemnity plans alike. When you schedule with us, we ask for your insurance information ahead of time so we can research your plan details and give you a clear financial picture before your appointment, not after.

If you're uninsured or your plan doesn't offer dental coverage, we're still happy to see you. Ask our team about self-pay pricing and financing options so you can get the care you need on a schedule that works for your budget.

Insurance FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to some of the most common questions our patients ask about dental insurance and payment at our Uptown Charlotte office.

Do you accept my dental insurance?

We work with many major dental insurance providers, and our accepted-provider list above reflects the carriers we most commonly coordinate with. Even if your specific plan isn't listed, please call our office at (704) 333-3399 - we frequently work with out-of-network PPO plans and can often still help you maximize your benefits.

What's the difference between in-network and out-of-network coverage?

In-network means our office has a contracted fee agreement with your insurance carrier, which typically results in lower out-of-pocket costs for you. Out-of-network means we don't have that specific agreement, but many PPO plans still provide partial reimbursement for care received at an out-of-network office. Our team can help estimate what your plan may cover either way.

Will you file my insurance claims for me?

Yes. As a courtesy to our patients, we file claims directly with your insurance carrier for both in-network and most out-of-network PPO plans. This helps streamline the reimbursement process so you don't have to manage the paperwork on your own.

What if my insurance doesn't cover the full cost of treatment?

Most dental insurance plans cover only a portion of major procedures, and some treatments may not be covered at all depending on your plan's structure. We'll always review your estimated coverage with you in advance and discuss flexible payment options, including third-party financing, so you can move forward with treatment confidently.

I don't have dental insurance - can I still be treated at your office?

Absolutely. Many of our patients don't carry dental insurance, and we welcome them just the same. Ask our front desk team about self-pay pricing, membership savings options, and financing plans that can help make treatment more affordable without insurance.

How can I find out exactly what my plan covers before my appointment?

The best way is to call our office ahead of your visit at (704) 333-3399 with your insurance card information ready. Our billing coordinators will verify your benefits directly with your carrier and provide you with a clear cost estimate before any treatment begins. You can also submit details through our appointment request form and our team will follow up.
